Sixteen-year-old MacKenna (“Mack”) Kinsley thinks she’s taking a train to the modern town of Bellefontaine. When she arrives, all she finds are calico, cowboys and carriages. At first she thinks it’s a theme park, but soon realizes she’s traveled back in time to the year 1872. Adjusting to life without cell phones, blow dryers and indoor plumbing is hard enough. But she must also attend a one-room schoolhouse, steer clear of the biddies who want to kick her out of town, and avoid getting thrown in the nearby lunatic asylum. To get back to her own time, she must solve the mysteries of an old diary, a vintage train line, and some haunted Indian burial grounds. But when she falls for a handsome young doctor’s apprentice, she’s no longer sure she wants to go home. If she stays with the man she loves, will she change history?

(Soon to come—the sequel to Train to Bellefontaine, Trapped in Time!)

I enjoyed this book from start to finish and can't wait for the sequel. Here's what I liked best:

- the humor. It isn't slapstick funny. Instead, it has a gentle humor throughout.
- the characters. There are a lot of background characters in the book and many of them are subtly introduced over the course of the book. When they appear later on in the book, you feel as though you already know them.
- the pacing. The book moves right along without dragging at all.
- the limits of time-travel. I appreciated that the time travel in this book has some restrictions and that the main character is able to figure it out.
- imperfections. It's always nice to have a main character who is not better than everyone else in the book. The heroine grows and learns from her many mistakes.

One critic complained that this book is a young-adult novel and that it wasn't identified as such. Just because it wasn't identified as a YA-novel doesn't mean that it should be considered a bad novel! If this book were a movie, I'd give it a G/PG rating and give it two thumbs up!

Train to Bellefontaine edition by Attwood Fuller Nancy Attwood Pamela Fuller Romance eBooks Reviews

Maybe I missed the clues in the description, but as soon as I started reading this book, I saw that it was a young adult novel. I would have absolutely steered clear of it if it had been properly represented. Romances don't have to be explicit for me to enjoy them, but I DO want the characters to be adults.
This book had a little of everything. Romance, adventure, family values. It is worthy of a blue ribbon for first prize!
Wonderful & Exciting....
It was a little slow to start, but I could put myself in her shoes and be there, great story for any age. I reccomend this
Time travel stories are one of my favorite reads. The chapter in this book when the heroine is faced with schoolwork in a 19th century classroom is downright funny!
I became quite attached to Mack (said heroine)and her beau, Alex; as well as the rest of the characters that inhabit the small town of Bellefontaine.
So glad to see there's a sequel in the works - there's certainly enough suspense at the end of the first book to warrant it!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and a hard time putting it down. I love time travel and historical fiction, and this has both and much more. There is humor, adventure, romance, and captivating characters. It keeps you in suspense all throughout wondering what will happen next. The setting goes from the future to a small town in the 1800's. You will feel like you are there in the charming small town of Bellefontaine and the characters will make you feel warm and right at home. This reminds me of "Little House on the Prairie" with an edge and time travel. The main character, Mack, is loads of fun and very entertaining in her struggles to adjust in another century. I highly recommend this to anyone.
I absolutely loved this book & couldn't stop reading until the very last word. I'm anxiously awaiting the sequel(s). As someone else mentioned, I can see this book as a movie. I'm waiting to plunk down cash for the next novel & for a movie based on this book!

Love the characters & the concept. I especially love the fact that unlike many modern novels, this offering isn't full of graphic & explicit sexual content. It's all about the storyline & the human connection between the characters. You really find yourself loving them.

I'd give more than 5 stars if I could.
Being a fan of time travel books and movies, I am always on the lookout for a new one, and I am thoroughly impressed with this book. It's difficult to find a different twist on the means of time travel and this one really did have a unique, fun and interesting way that it occurs.

But even beyond that, the characters are so beautifully brought to life. I feel like I could cast this book as a movie, and while reading it I was able to fully picture each scene as well as each character perfectly, both the way they looked and their personalities. I got lost in the story and found it hard to put down. A little lost sleep later, I've concluded that I cannot wait for the sequel to find out what happens to these wonderful people!

I love the 1800's, so the fact that it has to do with that era really attracted me. So much attention is paid to details that make it fully believable that our heroine has been transported to that time in history. The mannerisms, clothing, speech and just the overall "feel" makes it seem like I've been personally transported there.

All of the characters are so fleshed out and "real". Even the children are completely believable, and the "foes" are not just completely bad, they have light and dark as well as humor.

I especially love the lead character of "Mack". She's wonderfully "un-perfect" but so loveable and you really feel for her. I could identify with the things she was feeling and her frustrations. She brings a lot of humor to the book, as well as some of the other characters. But there is also adventure and romance, a bit of science fiction, and just a wonderfully entertaining read.

I also so appreciate how well written it is. I've read so many that frustrate me with many spelling mistakes, words missing or other errors that to me just stand out and really make reading some of the books on the frustrating for me. I feel like people sometimes just rush them out, don't proofread or give it the time it deserves before publishing. This one is not like that at all. I saw no errors whatsoever and it was a flowing, easy to read book in every way.

These are two very talented authors. It didn't feel like two people wrote it at all...it was quite seamless. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, younger folk as well. If you like time travel, adventure, romance, humor and/or the 1800's, you've got it all right here! I so look very forward to its sequel. When is it coming out? Hopefully soon!
